Former NFL Player and Teacher Arrested for Sex with Teen

Twenty-Eighty (28) year old Dwight Ellick was recently arrested for with Unlawful Sex with a Minor. Ellick, a former player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a former high school teacher, is alleged to have had a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old student from the school where he taught. The student told some friends about the liaison and the information was relayed to school authorities, who in turn contacted law enforcement.

In Nevada, the age of consent is generally sixteen (16) years old. However, a teacher, school employee or volunteer is still legally prohibited from having even consensual sexual contact with 16 and 17 year old students that attend the school where they work. A teacher who has consensual sexual contact with a 16 or 17 year old student from their school can be punished by up to five (5) years in prison. A teacher who has consensual sexual contact with a 14 or 15 year old student can face up to six (6) years in prison. NRS 201.540. A conviction for sexual conduct with a student may also result the teacher or employee becoming a registered sex offender.
