Brook Mueller Arrested for Assault and Cocaine Possession

Brooke Mueller, ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, was arrested Friday for Assault and Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute. Mueller, who previously participated in drug rehabilitation several times, was arrested in an Aspen, Colorado bar after she allegedly attacked another woman.

In Nevada, the crime of Assault is defined as: "Unlawfully attempting to use physical force against another person . . . or . . . Intentionally placing another person in reasonable apprehension of immediate bodily harm." Assault is usually a misdemeanor offense, which means its punishable by up to six (6) months in city or county jail. Even though a misdemeanor is the least serious type of crime in Nevada, it can still have severe consequences on the accused's personal and professional life.

Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell is a very serious felony offense, and even a first offenses is punishable by up to four (4) years in prison. A second offense is punishable by up to five (5) years in prison. A third offense is punishable by up to fifteen (15) years in prison.

Drug addiction is a powerful disease, and frequently requires numerous attempts at rehab before the addict can achieve long-term sobriety. Like Mueller, many addicts seem to return again and again to drugs and/or alcohol, even after hitting what others believe is the "bottom."
