California Lawyer Arrested for Trashing Las Vegas Hotel Suite

A California lawyer was arrested recently on felony charges of Malicious Destruction of Private Property. The attorney reportedly booked a "High Roller" suite at a strip hotel for his birthday. Apparently, the party got out of hand. When hotel staff finally re-took possession of the room, occupants had caused nearly $100,000.00 in damage including overturned furniture, shattered glass on the floor and food smeared on the carpet, walls and drapes. Numerous people were present when security arrived, but the attorney (who was intoxicated at the time) insisted that he was responsible for all of the damage.

Malicious Destruction of Private Property can be a very serious offense in Nevada. Depending on the value of the property alleged to be damaged, Malicious Destruction of Private Property can be a Felony, a Gross Misdemeanor or a simple Misdemeanor. Where the damage caused exceeds $5,000.00, the charge is a felony offense and is punishable by up to five (5) years in prison. A conviction for any felony offense can have life-long consequences, including losing the right to vote and the right to own or possess a firearm. A felony conviction can also have significant immigration consequences, including deportation and exclusion.
