Rima Fakih, a former Miss USA, was arrested Saturday in Michigan on charges of Driving under the Influence. Fakih first denied that she had been arrested – or even that she was in Michigan. Her attorney later admitted that it was, in fact, the beauty queen that had been arrested. He also expressed that Fakih was "very apologetic."
Driving under the Influence is a very serious offense. An arrest for even a first-offense misdemeanor DUI can have severe consequences on your personal and professional life. First time DUI offenders may face up to six (6) months in jail, loss of license, as well as large fines and extensive education and counseling requirements. Subsequent offenses are punished more harshly. A third offense in seven (7) years is a felony offense with mandatory prison terms. If a person dies or is seriously injured in a DUI accident, the driver may face up to twenty (20) years in prison.
