Facebook Post Leads To Arrest In Assault

Police in Pennsylvania arrested Anthony Lescowitch after he shared a wanted photo of himself on his Facebook page. Police posted the wanted poster on their own page, and within minutes Lescowitch reposted it to taunt officials. Lescowitch was wanted on charges including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct related to a July 2013 incident.

Cops were able to lure Lescowitch into a "meeting" with a female Facebook user who responded to his Facebook post. An officer, pretending to be the woman, messaged about the wanted post and he agreed to meet with her. He was arrested on the assault charges during the meeting. Shortly after the arrest, officers updated their Facebook post to read:

"CAPTURED!!!!!! SHARES OUR STATUS ON FACEBOOK ABOUT HIMSELF, CAPTURED 45 MINUTES LATER."

Violent crimes are serious, and charges for assault can lead to stiff penalties upon conviction. Lescowitch's taunting approach to authorities will likely garner him little favor as he proceeds to trial on the charges. If you have been arrested on assault charges your first step should be to contact a skilled criminal defense attorney, like those at Brown Law Offices. It may also be advisable to avoid social media posts about the crime.

Nevada defines assault as "unlawfully attempting to use physical force against another person or intentionally placing another person in reasonable apprehension of immediate bodily harm." NRS 200.471. Depending on the alleged victim of the assault and whether or not a weapon was used, the crime could be charged as a felony or a misdemeanor and could result in up to six years in prison.
