NBA Star J.R. Rider Returns to Court for Failing to Attend Domestic Violence Classes and Complete Community Service

NBA Star Isaiah "J.R." Rider was arrested and held without bail last week for a Probation Violation. Rider was subsequently released, but will be back in court this week to answer charges that he failed to complete his required counseling and community service in connection with his Battery Domestic Violence case. Prosecutors also claimed that Rider failed to submit to court-ordered drug test. However, Rider has a receipt showing that he did submit to a drug test approximately a week prior to his arrest.

In Nevada, Battery Domestic Violence charges carry very harsh penalties. If convicted of misdemeanor Battery Domestic Violence, a first-time offender can expect to pay fines and assessments of at least $340.00, complete a minimum of 48 hours of community service, attend six (6) months of weekly Domestic Violence counseling, serve a minimum mandatory two (2) days in jail as well as being ordered to stay out of trouble while the case is open. The Court will also likely impose a suspended sentence of up to six (6) months in jail, which may be imposed at a later time if the offender does not complete these requirements.
