Types of Murder Charges in Nevada
Two types of murder exist under Nevada law. Murder in the first degree consists of the act of deliberately killing another with malice aforethought. This may also be charged in cases where the individual did not intend to kill another but did so while committing another crime, such as: robbery, burglary, rape, arson or some other felony. This type of crime is labeled "felony murder". Second-degree murder consists of a killing that was not premeditated or planned. Second-degree may also have followed from some type of reckless behavior which showed little regard for human life.
Manslaughter is also a type of homicide, which is killing someone without premeditation or malice. Voluntary manslaughter occurs when someone kills in the heat of the moment. Involuntary manslaughter occurs unintentionally through negligence or through illegal behavior, such as killing someone in an auto accident while speeding or drunk.
